August in Saint George always carries a certain energy that I find genuinely exciting — the heat is at its peak, the red rock landscape shimmers in that unmistakable desert light, and families are hustling to get everything squared away before the school year kicks back into gear. At Red Rock Oral and Facial Surgery, we feel that rhythm every single year, and August 2026 has been no exception. It has been one of the busiest and most rewarding months we’ve had the privilege of serving this community.

This month, we had the opportunity to care for 45 patients from the 84790 ZIP code alone, and the breadth of procedures we performed reflects just how diverse the oral health needs of our Saint George neighbors truly are. All told, we completed 62 surgical extractions — a number that underscores how many residents are dealing with everything from compromised teeth to complex restorative situations that require a surgeon’s level of care. Each of those procedures represents someone moving from discomfort or uncertainty toward a healthier, more confident future, and that never gets old for me.

Wisdom tooth extractions were a major part of our August work, with 27 procedures completed this month. This is entirely in keeping with a pattern we see every summer in the Saint George area. When college students return home and high school seniors prepare to head off to university, families take advantage of the break to finally address those third molars that have been on the radar for months — sometimes years. Recovery is simply easier when a young person isn’t juggling classes and exams, and parents understandably want that peace of mind before a child is hours away from home. Beyond extractions, August also saw meaningful implant and reconstructive work. Paired with that, we performed 4 bone grafting procedures — a critical step for patients who need to rebuild jaw structure before implant placement is even possible.
